Step 2

For the adult: If the word will not come, say only the first sound and let your child say the rest. So say s in sol, not the whole word. Then it is still your child who read it.

For the adult: Every word here has a drawing. Hold a finger over the drawing while your child reads the word, then move the finger away. That way the word gets read instead of guessed from the picture.

For the adult: The words here are things you have in the house or on your body. Go looking for them afterwards, you can find most of them in five minutes.

For the adult: The words have four letters now. Some begin with two consonants right after each other, gl in glas and gr in gris. Say the sounds slowly, g-l-a-s, and let your child blend them. It takes time the first time, and that is fine.

For the adult: Lama, magi, puma, sofa and tuba have two syllables. Clap the word before you read it: la-ma. Then it is easier to blend the sounds into a word.

For the adult: Five letters and two syllables. Read the word in two bites, ba-nan, and then put the bites together. Tap the speaker if you are unsure where the stress goes.

For the adult: In melon, mobil, pokal and rosin the stress is on the last syllable. Listen to the word if your child stresses the first part, and then read it again.

For the adult: Six letters, and in ananas and bikini three syllables: a-na-nas, bi-ki-ni. Read one syllable at a time. The c in citron is said like an s.

For the adult: Politi, salami, tivoli and violin have three syllables. Clap them before you read them. When your child can read the words here, they are ready for step 3.
